Reflexology Week in Winnipeg - Historical Trivia

A little known bit of Winnipeg History:

The week of April 27 to May 3, 1997 was proclaimed to be "Reflexology Awareness Week" in Winnipeg, Manitoba by Mayor Susan A. Thompson.

"Whereas the Manitoba Chapter of the Reflexology Association was established in 1989 as Manitoba's first reflexology association;

"And whereas the mission of the Manitoba Chapter of the Reflexology Association of Canada is to benefit the citizens of Winnipeg by promoting reflexology as an instrument in preventive health care;

"And whereas the Manitoba Chapter of the Reflexology Association of Canada provides an opportunity for people of all walks of life to improve their health and well-being through reflexology and, in turn provide further benefits to themselves and to their community;

"And whereas the Reflexology Association of Canada us a nonprofit organization, federally chartered in 1976 as Canada's first reflexology association with members from coast to coast who are dedicated to benefit their communities;

Now, therefore, I, Susan A. Thompson, May of the City of Winnipeg, in the Province of Manitoba, do proclaim the week of April 27th to May 3rd, 1997 as: "Reflexology Awareness Week."

The worldwide Reflexology Week occurs annually in September.
